5 Steps to Increase Blog Traffic

Implementing ways to increase blog traffic can bring massive publicity. Don’t believe me? Journalists are always searching for news ideas and an expert to interview.
I know of one client who worked hard on her blog - not only implementing strategies to increase blog traffic but posting consistently and she was approached by a journo. Her blog rated highly in the Search Engines and she continually kept coming up under his radar. He interviewed her on the condition he included a link back to her blog. This guy had a readership of 400,000+.
Can you imagine the impact that had on her blog (her list, her business etc)? Let’s just say she no longer needs to keep building her list!

1.How Often?
Ideally you should be writing and submitting to your blog three times a week if you are writing naturally (without keywords) or once a week loaded with keywords.
However the crucial step here is to be regular (something I continue to struggle with). It may help to put a particular time and day in your diary and sit down to do it at that time, on that day every week.
Doing so with help the Search Engines find you.

2.Headlines
Statistic: 8/10 people will read headline copy but only 2/10 people will read the content.
Creating good headline copy is a great way to increase blog traffic. There’s a great book called “Phrases That Sell” but applying the following rules will generally help:
The question: “Are You Tired of Hearing about the Economy?” Make sure the question focuses on the reader’s interests, not yours.
The How-to: “How to Get Firm Abs in 30 Days.” Think of the benefits your products or service offers and then create how-to headlines.
The Command: “Boost Your Business Today!” or “Get 7 New Clients Now!” Turn your most important benefit into a headline. Also, using numbers brings in 3-8 times more traffic than not. (I just found that out when researching for this issue so you will be seeing a lot more numbers from me!)

3.Using Keywords
Write your blog post focusing on one keyword or phrase at a time. In other words, try not to crowbar several keywords that sum up your business throughout your blog post. For example, if you were posting about how to 'increase blog traffic' then just keep it to those three words.
Choose your keyword and use it as near to the beginning of your post title as you can. Repeat the keyword in your first sentence and then scatter it throughout your blog. This is *the* best way to increase attention from Search Engines when using keywords.

4.Comment, Comment, Comment
The more you comment on other blogs, the more traffic you are driving back to your own blog. And if someone comments on your blog, comment back to carry on the conversation. Search Engines recognise this as new content and it will re-index that blog post. Plus it keeps the conversation going which equals interactive readers and they are the ones who are most likely to become clients. It’s the good old ‘Know, Like, Trust’ factor.

5.Social Networking Sites
You can generate half of your traffic just from Facebook and Twitter! I have an account at Twitter Feed which automatically updates Twitter. I have set Twitter up to automatically update Facebook. Then over on Facebook I also have the Notes application which updates my profile. My blog posts are also updated on LinkedIn, HomeBizBuzz and I forget where else! I have Twitter automatically update my blogs too.
The key step here is to cast your net wide to reach as many potential clients as possible.

I have just scratched the surface here to get you started. If you need me to expand on any of these tips or want some step-by-step help with how to increase blog traffic, simply email me or comment with your question. It’s a big project if you are just getting started so just take your time familiarising yourself with it. If there was one step to start with, (after setting up your blog first of course) I would pick connecting all your social networking sites. That will take the least amount of time to set up.

Good Luck!
